‘A Very British Affair’

Last Sunday saw By Bethany’s second collaboration with Perfecto Mundo Events, whom you may remember from the Autumnal photo shoot ‘Falling in Love’, view here. The overall feel of the display (which was for use at a boutique wedding fair, held at The Bingham Hotel in Richmond, a stunning venue) had to be that of a classically English estate garden in the spring. Simple, stylish, sophisticated, elegant, beautiful, and quite magnificent.

I took inspiration from the classic box topiary, an essential element to any polished English garden, and one that The Bingham naturally possess. The domed shape of the bush was to be echoed throughout the display; not only to create a harmony that would be at once effective and pleasing to the eye, but that would also keep the overall look clean, and elegant. The composition grew from there, quite literally…

A tall clear vase stood in the centre, topped with a fluffy green and white topiary of its own. Next came a much lower layer also with a pallet of white and soft green, but this time broken up into clusters. Then the lower level, consisting of the darker green box topiary, placed into bright silver urns.

The urn shape was chosen for its stately English affiliations, and like the dome, was echoed throughout the arrangement with the containers used. All containers were clear glass or a bright silver , which I felt would give the look the contemporary edge Aruna was keen on achieving.

As a small touch, thyme plants, cut as miniature topiary were planted into candle holders and used as would be favours by each place setting. I chose the thyme because the shape of the leaf reflects that of the box. It also has the most delicious perfume that wafts gently over everything in its vicinity.

Here is the overall result of our labours…what do you think?

I would like to thank Perfecto Mundo Events for having me and for being such a pleasure to work with, both in the lead up to and on the day of the event itself. I hope we can work together again in the future.
