Obsessed with…snake’s head fritillary

When I was younger I always thought that the magnificent snake’s head fritillary was an exotic import from some far off and mysterious corner of the world, just look at then! However I was wrong, and became ridiculously excited (to the point where I was given some very judgmental looks at our local Waitrose) when I was informed they are in fact native wild flowers.

They are the one of the most exquisitely detailed and delicate flowers, with their perfectly patterned petals, and long swaying stems. They also happen to be an endangered species, I therefore refuse to pick such tiny treasures and prefer to display them in their natural state, to later be planted out into the garden. What better way to admire and protect these remarkably graceful little plants.
