Lots of florists seem intimidated by using garden flowers, perhaps because they don’t come selected, wrapped and cleaned, but I love them. It is after all where floristry started, going out and picking a poesy of wild blooms to decorate the house or to walk down the aisle with (initially to cover up the smell of body odour, but we won’t go into that).
I’ve been having a lot of fun in the garden this morning selecting flowers for this bouquet, including garden roses, garden spray roses, sage, honey suckle, allium seed heads and weeping pear foliage.
The key is not to be scared. You’ll find shapes and textures that you won’t at the markets, don’t run from them, enjoy them and the freedom that they give you.
The results you’ll get are glorious. Long live the British flower!!
