We have an antique market in my town that I discovered when on the hunt for pretty, white cotton, Victorian underwear, which I wear in the summer, snitched in with a massive waist belt. It was there that I also started to develop an appreciation for botanical art and illustration. I could never afford then, so instead, spent many a happy half hour sifting through the many plates to find my favourites.
Nowadays, in my quest to learn everything there is to know about the power of plants I have come to appreciate them for perhaps less artificial reasons.
Yes, they are aesthetically pleasing and fascinating to the eye, but they are also informative, scientific diagrams, that very few people are qualified to document. This is an enhancement of their beauty for me, and they’re still my favourite part of my botany books.
